Peter Donegan Show featuring the Lonnie Donegan Band
About the show
Tonight we take a step back into musical history with Peter Donegan and featuring The Lonnie Donegan Band.
After taking over the reigns of the band from his father in 2009 Peter has toured all over Britain flying the Skiffle flag and carrying on the music of his father which was so pivotal in the history of British popular music and, in fact, inspired the most important people in British rock.
From the Beatles to the Rolling Stones, from Led Zeppelin to Jack White, they all cite dad and his explosive impact with this ever so simple and accessible yet effective style of playing.
Pete carries that impact with the band and says that never has he performed where audiences of all ages didn't feel that desire to stomp feet, clap hands and sing every chorus.
He tells us "One thing that sets great performers like Dad and Elvis Presley apart from all the others, is not even just the energy on stage but the ability to connect with the most important people at every gig; the audience. Dad was so right when he used to tell me that without you (the audience) we wouldn't be here. So, like Dad we take the time to have a laugh, take requests and even answer questions. All this in between playing some of Dad's huge hits and some of the lesser known songs and even some songs which inspired him". He adds "and if you don't behave yourselves I'll play some of mine! All in all, as dad used to say; "Let's have a really good time!"
